Material Guide
Aluminum (6061-T6, 7075-T6)
- Best for: lightweight structural parts, prototypes
- Finishes: as-machined, bead blast + anodize (clear/black)
- Notes: anodize adds ~10–25µm; call out cosmetic faces
Stainless (304, 316)
- Best for: corrosion resistance, food/medical fixtures
- Finishes: as-machined, passivation
- Notes: lower machinability → longer cycle times
Carbon Steel (1018, 4140)
- Best for: strength, cost-effective production
- Finishes: powder coat, black oxide, zinc plate
- Notes: heat treat may warp—tolerance after HT when needed
Plastics (Delrin/Acetal, Nylon, PC, ABS)
- Best for: low weight, low friction, electrical isolation
- Notes: thermal expansion & chip welding—avoid tiny radii
